Why Whoop is the wearable that will improve us all

Since 2015, Whoop has been on a mission to unlock the potential of human performance. The journey begun in elite sport, working with a hundred or so athletes at the top of their game. But it is where next, which is exciting for all of us.

For those of you who don’t know, Whoop is a wearable device similar to a Fitbit, Apple Watch etc.

You might be thinking, so what? Or that you’ve already got one, so you’re all set. Indeed, the writer of this piece is wearing a Fitbit as he writes it!

Well, we’re not here to review Whoop’s products, that’s been done and you can find balanced reviews via a quick google search. No, Nassau exists to shine a light on rebel ideas, the stuff that improves the way we live and quality brands doing good things.

For us Whoop embodies this.

It is difficult to ignore the mission it professes to be on and the values it holds dear as an organisation. Read more here

This idea that we can all perform our lives at elite level, whatever that might be.

For example, parents who want to be at their best for their children, or ambitious folk who want to be on their game everyday at work, everyone can harness the powerful benefits of Whoop.

Whoop is using the same principles that guide high-level athletic performance, and translating them into the everyday. The difference between Whoop and a Fitbit (by way of example) is that Whoop is based in biological science and its magic comes from the way in which it coaches, guides and educates you every day.

Its foundation is sleep and recovery, and understanding what the body is telling you through biological data.

It tells you when your body is recovered and ready for exercise, and to what intensity you should go. It tells you your heart-rate variability, temperature changes and fatigue levels which helps to identify whether you are becoming sick, or whether you just need a rest, and for women, menstrual cycles.

It sounds complex, but this information, insights and knowledge are delivered in a simple and easy to understand way.

Perhaps the most exciting thing is where this is all going and what the future looks like.

For the past 5 or so years, many people (in the developed world that is) have slowly become engrossed in physical achievement made measurable by fitness trackers. Therefore, it’s not too much of a jump to make, that through the next 5 years we will become engrossed in what our sleep quality is and how well we recover from our daily activities or stresses.

This is compounded by the advancement in our overall understanding of the power of sleep and its importance to our body’s recovery, memory, creativity, immune system, energy and overall health.

We believe that this will lead to people finding more time and head space to take part in a wider range of activities in their lives, expanding their creativity and becoming better humans.

There is absolutely no reason why you shouldn’t treat your own life the same way as an elite athlete.

Whoop has just made it possible to you get there.
