Outerknown is ripping up the playbook to become a world-leading sustainable style brand.

The brand founded by 11x World Surfing champ and the G.O.A.T., Kelly Slater, is making some big waves in the apparel industry with a strategy to become fully circular by 2030.

It’s not as if he really needed the money, but when Kelly Slater does something, he tends to do it with a real purpose. Perhaps that’s why he’s still competing on the WSL Championship Tour… at aged 49!

For most professional athletes, the easiest thing to do is sign a contract and take a healthy looking cheque. To endorse a brand is easy, all you do is spend a couple of days doing photoshoots, meet & greets and posting out a few pictures on Instagram. But to create one is, well, this is something entirely different.

Since launching in 2015, Outerknown has been challenging the conventional norms across almost every aspect of clothing manufacturing; from creating clothes from recycled fish net fibres called ECONYL®, to working with Fair Trade certified suppliers, and creating a Second Spin collection - made from recycled textiles and off-cuts that are broken down and respun.

This is to name a few from an ocean of incredible initiatives that you can read more about here.

One of the brand’s current platforms is Outerworn, a pre-owned marketplace that allows owners of Outerknown garments to sell or trade-in their clothing for store credit. It also allows consumers to purchase ‘pre-loved’ garments at significant discounts.

Makes sense right?

The overall aim of all of this action, is to fulfil a present day commitment to operate a circular business model by 2030.

It’s an incredible journey that Outerknown is on, and as a trailblazer of sustainable style, this is a brand we wholeheartedly support.

So keep an eye out for future releases, collaborations and drops.
