Aside from the $20m (reported) per year he banks, the force behind Neymar Jr’s decision to make the huge step away from the superstar Nike roster to becoming the big fish at Puma, is starting to make more sense.

In the latest release of Puma products linked to this collaboration, the vibrant culture of Neymar Jr’s nationality, and upbringing in Sao Paulo is reflected, along with the street style of football in which so many of Brazil’s greatest players have honed their craft.

Not only that but it seems as though Neymar Jr, despite some of his critics, has never forgotten where his passion came from, and subsequent responsibility as his nation’s talisman.

He said: “I grew up watching videos of great football legends such as Pelé, Cruyff, Matthäus, Eusébio and Maradona. These were the kings of the pitch, the kings of my sport. I wish to bring back the legacy that those athletes created on the pitch. They each played in Puma, and each of them created their magic in the king.”

So far so good and we’re looking forward to seeing more of the vibrance and flair you’d expect from one of the world’s most gifted ballers.
