Fortnite x Football Clubs
What we think.
Fortnite’s latest cultural collaboration brings the world of football, the most popular sport in the world, into the virtual battle royale game.
Football has been one of the cultural mainstays throughout the ongoing pandemic and so it is hardly surprising that Fortnite has kicked off 2021 with this major collaboration, aimed at bridging the gap between gamers and sports fans.
Licensing the IP of football clubs and Brazilian legend, Pele, Fortnite has created a set of downloadable skins inspired by the jerseys of 23 football clubs, with which gamers can dress their in-game characters. Beyond this, fans can play a game of 4-on-4 utilising their special power-ups and skills to outscore opponents.
This isn’t the first time Fortnite has harnessed the scale of sport to keep things fresh, in recent times a similar development with the NFL and the Jordan Brand was released, offering similar benefits to gamers.
With rumours of a Neymar Jr. collaboration on the horizon, football x Fortnite seems here to stay.
